AndaluciaThe region of Andalucia (Andalusía) covers the majority of the South Coast of Spain. The region is divided into eight provinces: Huelva, Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba, Málaga, Jaén, Granada and Almería. Its capital and largest city is Seville.Andalucia offers a mass of culture and history, some of the most scenic and beautiful places to visit, perfect sunshine weather most of the year round and traditional dishes and wines that will make you want to return again and again. With a good road network around Andalucia, you could combine a few days in rural Alajar, with its old cobbled streets and countryside walks, with a few days in cultural Seville, discovering the endless maze of lanes leading to hidden gems of traditional tapas bars and the famous Cathedral, with a few days on a secluded beach at Punta Umbria and then taking in the stunning views across the Gibraltar Straits from the historic old town of Tarifa. The options for a trip to Andalucia are endless. Here are some of the famous destinations, not forgetting that there are hundreds of beautiful interesting traditional styled Andalucian towns inbetween just waiting to be discovered. |
Highlights of AndaluciaSeville (Sevilla) - offers a mixture of historic buildings, such as Plaza de Espana, La Giralda, Sevilla Cathedral and the very interesting tour of the Alcazar - the Royal Palace. Eating out in Seville is a must, in the Barrio Santa Cruz you will stumble across restaurants and tapas bars everywhere.Tarifa - visit the nearby ancient Roman city, still partly standing, enjoy the stunning views across the Gibraltar Straits to Africa and follow a traditional Morroccan styled restaurant with some cocktails in the old town. Granada - seated at the foot of the Sierra Navada mountains this city has a strong Moorish influence - none more clearer than in the famous Alhambra, the architecture of which makes it one of Spain's most famous tourist attractions. Jaen - a quintessentially Andalucian city with an ancient and facinating history. The Santa Catalina castle dominates the city with its mountainous back drop. As in many parts of Spain, Fiestas in Holy Week are the big attraction here too. |
